On January 12, 2020, President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolences to new Sultan Haitham bin Tariq al-Said of Oman over the passing away of Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman. On behalf of the Chinese government and the Chinese people, and in his own name, Xi Jinping expressed deep condolences over the death of Sultan Qaboos bin Said, and extended sincere sympathy to Sultan Qaboos bin Said's family and the Omani people.

Xi Jinping said, as a great leader of Oman, Sultan Qaboos bin Said had made important contributions to Oman's development and construction, as well as to the peace and stability of the Middle East and the Gulf region, and has been deeply loved by the Omani people. As an old friend of the Chinese people, Sultan Qaboos bin Said had made positive contributions to advancing the development of China-Oman strategic partnership, facilitating practical cooperation between the two countries in various fields and enhancing the friendship between the two peoples. The Chinese government and people highly value China-Oman friendship. I firmly believe that with concerted efforts of both sides, China-Oman strategic partnership will surely make new progress.
