Wang Yi: The "Belt and Road" Construction Is a Common Cause

On April 18, 2017, when answering questions at the briefing for Chinese and foreign media held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs over the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, Foreign Minister Wang Yi pointed out that any initiative needs strong impetus at the start. The Chinese government has firm confidence in the bright prospects of the "Belt and Road" to promote common development of all countries, and is willing to increase input and play its due role in the "Belt and Road" construction. This is the responsibility of China as the initiator of the "Belt and Road" initiative, and also an embodiment of sincerity to co-construct the "Belt and Road" with all countries.

Certainly, the "Belt and Road" construction is not only China's business but a common cause. Whether we can realize the grand vision of the "Belt and Road" depends on our joint efforts. In the future, China, with the transformation and upgrading of its economic structure and further opening up, will provide more cooperation opportunities for countries along the "Belt and Road" and countries in the world at large. Meanwhile, as the benefits of the "Belt and Road" flow to more countries, a development momentum featuring all countries' common development will be formulated and in return, more driving forces will be injected into the "Belt and Road" construction and a virtuous circle will be created.

Wang Yi said that during the process of joint construction of the "Belt and Road", we hope all parties can not only give full play to the leading and coordinating role of the governments, but also attach more importance to the decisive role of market in resource allocation to mobilize forces of enterprises, and welcome people from all walks of life to participate in, so as to achieve growth driven by multiple engines, and finally form an all-dimensional promotion pattern featuring government guidance, market-based operation, enterprise dominance and non-governmental group facilitation.
