Wang Yi Meets with Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger of the United States (US)
2019/09/28

On September 27, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger of the United States (US) in New York.

Wang Yi said, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the US, the Chinese people spoke positively of Dr. Henry Kissinger's historic contributions to promoting the development of bilateral relations. At present, China-US relations have once again come to a crossroads. It is dangerous for some people in the US to advocate seeing China as an opponent, or even play up the idea of decoupling from China. The Chinese side is committed to realizing no conflict or confrontation but mutual respect and win-win cooperation with the US side, and jointly advancing bilateral relations based on coordination, cooperation and stability. It is hoped that the US side will also adhere to the concept that real harmony hinges on the recognition of and respect for disparities, meet the Chinese side halfway, manage differences on the basis of mutual respect, deepen cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit, and jointly promote the sound, stable and forward-looking development of China-US relations. It is hoped that Dr. Henry Kissinger will continue to be a bridge in deepening exchanges and cooperation between China and the US.

Henry Kissinger said, US-China relations are very important to world peace and prosperity, and bilateral cooperation will help solve problems facing the international community. The US and China cannot decouple from or avoid each other. The two sides should strengthen communication and coordination, resolve differences through constructive dialogue, and avoid conflicts. I am willing to continue to work for the development of US-China relations.
