Exchange of Visits by Head of States

Visit to Egypt by Chinese Heads of State

From March 14 to 21, 1986, Chinese President Li Xiannian and his wife visited Egypt, which marked the first one by Chinese President to Egypt. President Li held a talk with President Hosni Mubarak and met Prime Minister Ali Lotfy, Speaker of the People's Assembly El-Mahgob, Chairman of the Shura Council. Persident Li also laid the foundation stone of the Cairo International Conference Center. The delegation stayed in Cairo, Alexandria and Luxor.

From December 18 to 23, 1989, Chinese President Yang Shangkun visited Egypt. President Yang held a talk with President Hosni Mubarak and met Prime Minister Sidki, Speaker of the People's Assembly El-Mahgob, Chairman of the Shura Council Mustafa Helmy. Persident Yang also attended the opening ceremony of the Cairo International Conference Center. The delegation stayed in Cairo and Alexandria.

From May 8 to 17, 1996, Chinese President Jiang Zemin visited Egypt. President Jiang held a talk with President Hosni Mubarak and met Speaker of the People's Assembly Sorour, Chairman of the Shura Council Mustafa Helmy and Secretary General of the Arab League Maguid. The delegation stayed in Cairo and Luxor.

On April 12, 2000, Chinese President Jiang Zemin travelled to Alexandria to meet President Hosni Mubarak during his middle east trip. The two Heads of States exchanged views on bilateral relations and other issues of common concern.

Visit to China by Egyptian Head of State

From April 18 to 24, 1976, Egyptian Vice President Hosni Mubarak, his wife and two sons visited China and met Chairman Mao. The two sides agreed to build a number of large scale projects with the grant of 345 million Swiss francs provided by China to Egypt. Vice President Hosni Mubarak stayed in Beijing, Shanghai and Wuxi.

From January 5 to 10, 1980, Egyptian Vice President Hosni Mubarak, his wife and two sons visited China. Vice Premier Deng Xiaoping and Vice President Hosni Mubarak held two talks on international and regional issues and bilateral relations. Vice President stayed in Beijing and Shenyang.

From April 1 to 4, 1983, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, his wife and two sons visited China which marked the first visit by Egyptian Head of State to China since establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Chairman of Advisory Committee of the Communist Party of China Deng Xiaoping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Hu Yaobang met President Hosni Mubarak respectively. Premier Zhao Ziyang held a talk on bilateral relations with President Hosni Mubarak. Preside Mubarak stayed in Beijing.

From May 11 to 13, 1990, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his wife visited China. Various state and party leaders including Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin and Yang Shangkun met President Hosni Mubarak respectively. Premier Li Peng held two talks with President Hosni Mubarak. Vice Chairperson of the National People's Congress Chen Muhua met the first lady Suzanne Mubarak. President Hosni Mubarak stayed in Beijing.

From October 12 to 13, 1992, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his wife visited China. President Yang Shangkun met President Hosni Mubarak and Premier Li Peng held a talk with President Hosni Mubarak. The Egyptian delegation stayed in Beijing.

From April 21 to 23, 1994, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak visited China. President Jiang Zemin held a talk with President Hosni Mubarak. Premier Zhu Rongji and Chairman of the National People's Congress Qiao Shi met President Hosni Mubarak. Vice Premier and Foreign Minister Qian Qichen held a talk with Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa.The Delegation stayed in Beijing.

From April 5 to 9, 1999, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his wife visited China together with their second son Gamal Mubarak. President Jiang Zemin held a talk with President Hosni Mubarak. The two Heads of State decided to establish 21st century-oriented strategic cooperative relations between the two countries. Other state and party leaders including Zhu Rongji, Li Ruihuan, Hu Jintao and Jia Qinglin met President Hosni Mubarak respectively. Premier Li Peng held two talks with President Hosni Mubarak. Chairperson of the National Women's League Peng Peiyun met the first lady Suzanne Mubarak. The delegation stayed in Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin.

At the invitation of the President of the People's Republic of China, Jiang Zemin, President and Mrs. Hosni Mubarak paid a state visit to China from January 23 to 26 2002. During the visit, President Mubarak held a talk with President Jiang Zemin, and met with Premier Zhu Rongji, Chairman Li Peng of the NPC and Chairman Li Ruihuan of the CPPCC. He also attended inauguration ceremony of China-Egypt Joint Business Council and visited the southern City Shenzhen. The two sides signed five documents including Economic and Technological Cooperation, Cooperation in Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy , Cooperation in Oil Field and MOU on the Implementation Plan of Chinese Tourist Groups Travelling to Egypt.
