CCTV launches Arabic international channel

China Central Television will officially launch its Arabic International Channel on July the 25th. The new 24-hour Arabic Channel will reach 300 million people in 22 Arab countries.

Vice president of China Central Television says that CCTV's Arabic International Channel will serve as an important bridge to strengthen communication and understanding between China and Arab countries. He also notes that the new channel needs five high standards in order to compete with other international Arabic channels.

Zhang Changming, Vice preisdent of China Central Television, said, "We must have high-standards for programs, talent, technology, management and partners."

CCTV Arabic will produce programs which fall into 4 categories that include news, feature stories, entertainment and education. The channel will present a variety of programs including ones called Dialogue, Talking About China and Documentaries. Programs will be rebroadcast six times every day while news will be regularly updated. The channel will gradually increase the number of programs as the channel develops.

The new Arabic Channel will reach the Middle East, North Africa and the Asia-Pacific region. Nearly 300 million people throughout these regions will be able to watch CCTV Arabic with their satellite dish.
