On September 4, 2016, President Xi Jinping and his wife Mme. Peng Liyuan held a banquet at Xizi Hotel in Hangzhou, welcoming foreign heads of delegation and all the guests attending the G20 Hangzhou Summit.
Hangzhou enjoys gentle breeze and exuberant greenness in early September. Xizi Hotel, by the side of the West Lake, boasts luxuriant plants and blossom. The distant Leifeng Tower shines in the evening glow, and pavilions are exquisitely scattered along the lake. The natural beauty of the lake and hills make up an inkwash painting with typical south China characters.
At about 7:00 p.m., leaders of G20 members and theirs spouses, leaders of guest countries and international organizations attending the G20 Hangzhou Summit and their spouses arrived one after another. Youth of Hangzhou waved flags of relevant parties along the road, welcoming the distinguished guests coming from afar.
Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan shook hands with the distinguished guests one by one at the welcome hall and exchanged greetings. Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan took pictures with heads of foreign delegations and their spouses at the lawn outside.
Xi Jinping, Peng Liyuan and the distinguished guests had cheerful conversations as they walked along the path beside the lake. The live performance was melodious with traditional Chinese instruments, echoing the nearby scenery. Xi Jinping, Peng Liyuan and the distinguished guests walked to the banquet hall in the bright music of welcome.
Xi Jinping delivered a speech and warmly welcomed the distinguished guests on behalf of the Chinese government and people. Xi Jinping said that Hangzhou always enjoys the reputation as "Paradise on Earth" with natural beauty of the lake and hills and humanistic landscapes around the city. It is bridges with appealing design and long history that connect all the beautiful scenery, which is also the source of inspiration of the logo of this summit.
Xi Jinping stressed that the G20 is like a bridge that brings us together from all over of the world. It is a bridge of friendship, through which we spread the seeds of friendship to the world. It is a bridge of cooperation, through which we discuss matters of vital importance, enhance coordination, deepen cooperation and seek win-win results. It is a bridge of future, through which we share weal and woe and join hands to embrace a much brighter tomorrow.
Xi Jinping stressed that we get together in Hangzhou with the sincere hope of people from all countries. We come here for a shared mission, which is to forge an innovative, invigorated, interconnected and inclusive world economy and lead a new round of strong growth. We come here for a closer partnership, in which we should uphold the idea of win-win results, constantly deepen mutual understanding, expand consensus and pool strength. We come here for the vision of human community of common destiny, which is to drive the progress of the world, lead the trend of global development and make more contribution to realizing common prosperity and progress of mankind.
After the banquet, Xi Jinping, Peng Liyuan and the distinguished guests headed by boat for Yue Lake, a part of the West Lake, to watch a performance entitled "Hangzhou, Living Poetry".
Waves of the West Lake sparkled with the colorful illuminations in the moonlight. The performance began in the sweet and lyrical music called "A Moonlit Night on Spring River" on lute's playing, presenting a lovely scene of flowers flickering on hills bathed in the moonlight. Folk tune named "Tea-picking Dance Music" displayed the elegance in tea-picking women's work originated from life and with poetic romance. The "Beautiful Love Legend" told Chinese folk love stories such as Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, Xu Xian and his wife White Snake. With a dialogue among Chinese Guqin, Chinese drum and cello, the music "High Mountain and Flowing Water" conveyed the wonderful wish of mutual understanding between China and the outside world. The ballet "Swan Lake" showed the scene of beautiful white swans dancing on the West Lake. The piano music "Moonlight" affectionately represented the masterpiece of impressionism. The song "My Country and I" expressed the shared feeling of mankind. The Chinese classic folk song "Hard to Forget Jasmine" was filled with passion for nature and attachment to scenery in hometown. The performance ended up with the symphony "Ode to Joy". With illuminations and inverted image in water, the performance combined reality and fantasy, and drew rounds of applause with continual brilliance.
