On May 21, 2014, the Fourth Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) concluded at the Shanghai Expo Centre. President Xi Jinping of China, the presidency of the CICA, President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan, the initiating country of the CICA, and Special Envoy of President and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu of Turkey, the last presidency of the CICA, jointly met the press.

Xi Jinping said, today, we held a grand conference with milestone significance, and had in-depth exchanges of views on the most urgent and most practical major issues confronting Asia's security, on the implementation of confidence building measures in various fields, on the promotion of the future development of the CICA and other topics, reaching a "Shanghai Consensus". We voiced our common aspiration, that is, only with solidarity, collaboration and joint efforts can Asia embrace a century of its own. Asian countries have the capacity to lead and to find solutions for the Asian affairs and realize security in Asia by enhancing the cooperation among ourselves.

Xi Jinping pointed out, in order to effectively cope with the complicated security challenges, all countries should absolutely abandon the old security concepts, advocate a security concept in Asia featured as being common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable, and forge a cooperative security pattern of openness, equality and transparency so as to march towards an Asian security path of common construction, sharing and win-win results.

Xi Jinping stressed, boasting advantages and real foundation in promoting dialogues among different civilizations, the CICA should play a greater role in the security in Asia. China will fulfill the mission of the CICA presidency and work with other member countries to implement the "Shanghai Consensus" and to enhance the mutual trust and dialogues among the Asian countries. China will promote the member countries to make it a common goal of building a peaceful, stable and cooperative new Asia for the third decade of CICA. As long as all member countries uphold a sincere wish as "family members wish each other well, and so do neighbours", and follow the idea of dialogue, trust and collaboration, Asia will embrace a broader and more promising prospect for its peace and development paths.

Nursultan Nazarbayev extended gratitude to China for successfully hosting the Shanghai summit of the CICA. He said that the Summit, with a milestone significance, has elevated the CICA to a new level of development. The security concept for Asia proposed by President Xi Jinping is of great significance and China's initiative to jointly build the Silk Road Economic Belt provides important opportunities for countries along the belt. He believed that with the joint efforts of China and all other parties, the CICA will surely enhance the dialogues, trust and cooperation among Asian countries and contribute to the peace, stability and prosperity in Asia.

Ahmet Davutoglu said that Turkey is glad to pass on the baton of the CICA presidency to China and believes that China would exercise leadership and make important contributions to the development of the CICA and Asian peace and stability.
