On 3 October 2013 local time, President Xi Jinping visited a photography exhibition on Sino-Indonesian friendship in Jakarta and talked with the youths of the two countries.

In the afternoon, President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan arrived at the National Museum of Indonesia and were welcomed by the Indonesian youths dressed in traditional costumes dancing folk dances.

At the beginning of the ceremony, the local children sang the Indonesian and Chinese national anthems in Indonesian and Chinese and greeted Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan in Chinese. Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan applauded and extended their greetings to the children. Xi Jinping mounted the podium and beat the gong to open the exhibition.

Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan then walked into the hall. The photography exhibition was co-organized by Antara News of Indonesia and Xinhua News Agency of China. The exhibition exhibited more than 70 pieces of precious photos, which vividly reproduced the historical moments of bilateral friendly exchanges and cooperation.

Xi Jinping watched the photos with great interest and had cordial conversations with the entourage. He happily recalled the friendly exchanges with the Indonesian communities.

The Indonesian and Chinese students visiting the exhibition were excited to meet President Xi Jinping on this occasion and warmly applauded. Xi Jinping shook hands with them and had pleasant conversations with them.

Shu Weiya, a student majoring in Chinese language at the University of Al Azhar extended a warm welcome to President Xi Jinping in Chinese and asked what impressed President Xi most during his visit to Indonesia. Xi Jinping said that it was his second visit to Indonesia after a lapse of 20 years. He once again experienced a beautiful and prosperous Indonesia and saw the warm, friendly, hard-working and wise Indonesian people. He witnessed the tremendous development achievements Indonesia has made, which he felt really pleased to see. He also said that his deep impression is that China and Indonesia enjoy extensive common interests and great potentials for cooperation. He said that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and he announced the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between Indonesia and China. He expressed the belief that the Sino-Indonesian relations will be even better in the future and that he hopes the young people would contribute their wisdom and talents to the cause of Sino-Indonesian friendship.

Wu Xiaogang, a Chinese student studying in Indonesia said that he was extremely excited to see President Xi and the countrymen from the motherland and the students were eager to listen to President Xi's teachings. Xi Jinping smilingly said that he, just like their family and friends, was happy that the Chinese students could have the opportunity to come to Indonesia, a friendly neighbor, to study. He hoped that the students could cherish the valuable learning opportunities to learn technical knowledge and ability to promote the Sino-Indonesian friendship and build a bridge of friendship between the two peoples. He also expressed the hope that the students could base their personal dreams on the Chinese dream of achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and master skills and abilities to serve the motherland.
