President Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister John Key of New Zealand

On 6 October local time, President Xi Jinping met in Bali Island, Indonesia with Prime Minister John Key of New Zealand.

Xi Jinping expressed that China-New Zealand relations enjoy sound development under the "two wheel drive" of high-level political mutual trust as well as mutually beneficial and win-win economic and trade cooperation. Both sides share the same or similar positions on quite a number of international and regional issues, respect each other's development path, and accommodate each other's core interests and major concerns. In the first half of this year, China became the largest trade partner of New Zealand for the first time.

Xi Jinping expressed that China cherishes friendly cooperative relations with New Zealand. China is ready to work with New Zealand to innovate thinking, to tap potentials, to deepen cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, animal husbandry, environmental protection and tourism, to actively explore cooperation in the field of infrastructure construction, to promote exchanges in the fields of scien-tech, people-to-people and cultural contacts and defence and to strengthen communication and coordination on issues including the Doha Round trade negotiations, climate change and regional cooperation mechanism, so as to unceasingly uplift the level of China-New Zealand relations.

John Key expressed that New Zealand and China enjoy sound cooperation in many fields and bilateral relations have continued to move to new highs. New Zealand attaches great importance to relations with China and will continue to be committed to strengthening cooperation with China. New Zealand hopes to coordinate and cooperate with China in UN affairs and supports China for hosting the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting next year.

John Key informed Xi Jinping of New Zealand dealing with the quality problems of the dairy products of Fonterra Co-operative Group Ltd., expressing that New Zealand will take strict measures to ensure the quality of the products.

Xi Jinping stressed that the food safety issue concerns people's health. Hope New Zealand will ensure food quality and earnestly maintain the sound growth momentum of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others were present at the meeting.
