President Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra of Thailand

On 6 October local time, President Xi Jinping met in Bali Island, Indonesia with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra of Thailand.

Xi Jinping expresses that China-Thailand relations enjoy a solid foundation of political, economic and public opinion support, with huge potentials for development and broad prospects. China attaches great importance to developing friendly relations with Thailand and views Thailand as an important cooperative partner in the region. The two countries established comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership last year and the China-Thailand relations have entered a new stage of development. Both sides should maintain close exchanges, plan for cooperation in accordance with their own development needs, explore new growth points and push for further progress of the China-Thailand relations. High-speed rail and water conservancy infrastructure construction are related to regional connectivity as well as to national economy and people's livelihood of Thailand. They should be pushed forward as a top priority for cooperation so as to become landmark projects of China-Thailand friendship.

Xi Jinping expressed that the China-Thailand relationship is at the forefront of China's relations with ASEAN countries and has played an exemplary role. Hope Thailand will fully leverage the role as country coordinator of ASEAN-China relations and actively push forward ASEAN-China mutual trust and cooperation so as to jointly safeguard prosperity and stability of the region. China supports Thailand's proposal to hold the International Conference on Sustainable Development in the Lancang-Mekong Sub-Region.

Yingluck Shinawatra expressed that the Thai government hopes to strengthen exchanges with China, to expand cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment and infrastructure construction and to effectively implement high-speed rail, water conservancy infrastructure construction and other projects. The Thai side appreciates China for adhering to reform and opening up and for moving towards the goal of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. China's economic growth is very important to Thailand and to ASEAN. Thailand agrees with China on the principles and proposals on ASEAN-China relations. Thailand is ready to work with China to promote the development of ASEAN-China friendly cooperation in order to maintain regional peace and stability. Thailand supports China's proposal to prepare for the establishment of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and is ready to cooperate with China.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others were present at the meeting.
