On 3 October 2013, President Xi Jinping met in Jakarta with Speaker Marzuki Alie of the House of Representatives of Indonesia.

Xi Jinping expressed that President Susilo and I have agreed to upgrade the relationship between the two countries to a comprehensive strategic partnership. China is ready to strengthen strategic communication with Indonesia and to push forward exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, people-to-people and cultural exchanges. The NPC of China and the Indonesian House of Representatives enjoy sound cooperative relations. Hope both sides will continue to strengthen exchanges and learn from each other so as to contribute more to promoting the relations between the two countries.

Marzuki Alie extended welcome to Xi Jinping for visiting the Indonesian House of Representatives and delivering a speech. President Xi Jinping is the first foreign head of state to address the Indonesian House of Representatives. The Indonesian House of Representatives is deeply honoured. He expressed that the friendly cooperative relations between Indonesia and China have enjoyed smooth development in recent years, with close exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries. The Indonesian House of Representatives supports the development of the relations between the two countries and is ready to strengthen contacts with the NPC of China, to play a positive role in promoting bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, infrastructure construction and education, and to push forward the relations between the two countries to a new high.

Executives of special committees of the Indonesian House of Representatives were present at the meeting.
